Cat Cremation in Seoul: what to know
Cat owners in Seoul range from apartment dwellers in Seoul and Gangnam to families on acreage who feed a handful of barn cats, and plenty of people in between who look after a community colony. Whether you're in one of the larger cities like Seoul and Gangnam or a small town, the questions to ask are the same: is it private, how is my cat identified, what's the total price in writing and when will the ashes come home? The local attitude to cremation
With about 92.43%[1] of people in Seoul choosing cremation, you'll rarely need to explain your decision. It also shapes what's on offer. Providers in high-cremation areas often stock small urns sized for cats, keepsake lockets and whisker or fur vials, because families ask for them. Look at the full range before you choose; with so little ash, even a tiny keepsake box will do.

Cat cremation costs around Seoul
In Tokyo, one memorial park charges about ¥14,300 for communal and ¥22,000 for individual cremation of a pet under 5 kg[2], while some ward collection routes cost less but don't return the ashes[3]. In Seoul, ask any provider whether the ashes come back and what the package covers.
In Seoul, private cremation is the usual choice for families who want their cat's ashes, and many providers include a short farewell ceremony. Local rules in Seoul
A cat's ashes are treated very differently from a body: in most places you can keep them, move them between homes or across borders, or carry them on a plane if the container can be screened and the airline agrees. It helps to keep the crematory's certificate with the urn. Local rules bite on two things instead, a body in the ground and ashes on public land, and they're summarized for Seoul below.
In South Korea, burying a pet yourself is generally not allowed, and licensed pet funeral facilities handle cremation, often with a short farewell ceremony and a choice of urns. Some facilities are outside the cities, so ask about collection. Get the price for a cat and a clear list of what the package includes.
What to do first, and what can wait
- If your cat dies at night, nobody needs a phone call before daylight. Carry your cat to the coolest room in the house and lay a towel over them.
- Put a towel or pad underneath. It's normal for a cat's bladder or bowels to release after death.
- Gently curl your cat into a sleeping position within the first few hours, before the body stiffens. It makes the box or basket easier and the goodbye gentler.
- In the morning, call your vet or a crematory that serves Seoul. Tell them where your cat is and whether you can bring them in.
- Ask for the price in writing, including collection, private or communal cremation and the container for the ashes.
- Take a paw print, a lock of fur or their collar before collection if you'd like a keepsake.
- Write down the expected return date for the ashes, and the name of whoever will call when they're ready.
Remembering your cat in Seoul
In multi-cat homes, the cats left behind grieve too, in their own way. Keep their routines steady, don't wash the shared bedding straight away and give them extra time on your lap. Some Seoul families mark the anniversary with something small the other cats can enjoy too, like a new window perch or a sunny afternoon at home together.

Questions people ask
Where can I scatter my cat's ashes in Seoul?
Your own garden is the simplest place, and private land with the owner's permission is fine too. Parks, beaches and public land usually have their own rules. Because a cat's ashes are only a cup or so, many families scatter a little and keep the rest in a small urn or keepsake at home.
How many communities do you cover in Seoul?
We currently have local cat cremation guides for 2 communities in Seoul, including Seoul and Gangnam. Each page covers local weather and timing, prices, rules and how pickup usually works there.
Is cat cremation cheaper in small towns in Seoul?
Sometimes, but not always. Small-town vets often have lower fees and a set collection day with a regional crematory, which keeps costs down. On the other hand, mileage charges for a home collection can cost more than the cremation of a cat. Bringing your cat in yourself is the easiest saving anywhere.
How much does cat cremation cost in Seoul?
Prices across Seoul depend mostly on whether you choose private or communal cremation, plus any home pickup or urn upgrade; a cat's weight barely changes the price. Big-city providers may charge more for same-day collection, while rural areas may add mileage. Ask for an itemized written total before you agree.
Can I bury my cat in the garden in Seoul?
Often yes, with conditions such as burial depth, distance from wells and waterways and whether you own the land. Cities, councils and landlords can be stricter than the wider rules. Dig deep enough to keep foxes and dogs away. If you rent or might move, cremation lets you keep your cat with you and bury the ashes later.
Can a vet come to my home to put my cat to sleep anywhere in Seoul?
In and around larger cities, mobile vets who offer home euthanasia are common, and they're especially popular with cat owners because it avoids the carrier and the car. In rural parts of Seoul, coverage is patchier and travel fees are more likely. Your regular vet may visit even if they don't advertise it, so ask.
