Why cremation is familiar in Netherlands, or isn't
Faith and family custom often shape human funerals in Netherlands, where cremation accounts for roughly 68.37%[1], but the same rules rarely apply to pets. Most traditions say little or nothing about how a cat should be laid to rest. If it matters to you, a short conversation with your faith leader can settle it; otherwise, choose what feels right for your cat and your home.
That Netherlands rate is a human one, published by Cremation Society of Great Britain, International Cremation Statistics 2023 (2023). We quote it for Eindhoven only as a pointer to how families here already think about cremation.

Most of the decisions after a cat dies are yours alone. The exceptions are burial and scattering, which North Brabant and your local council or city may regulate, and, in some places, updating your cat's microchip record so the database knows they've died.
The Netherlands has about 3,000,000[7] pet cats, well ahead of its dogs. Several Dutch pet insurers reimburse part of the cremation cost[8], so check your policy. Individual (individuele) cremation returns your cat's ashes; collective doesn't. Many crematoria let you attend, and some have a farewell room.
What to do when your cat dies in Eindhoven
- If your cat dies at night, nobody needs a phone call before daylight. Carry your cat to the coolest room in the house and lay a towel over them.
- Put a towel or pad underneath. After death the bladder and bowels often empty, which is ordinary.
- Gently curl your cat into a sleeping position within the first few hours, before the body stiffens. It makes the box or basket easier and the goodbye gentler.
- In the morning, call your vet or a crematory that serves Eindhoven. Tell them where your cat is and whether you can bring them in.

Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from Eindhoven?
