Cat Cremation in Piedmont: what to know
Across the 1 Piedmont communities we cover, the same questions come up again and again: how fast can my cat be collected, what does private cremation really cost for such a small animal, and how will I know the ashes are my cat's? The answers differ more between a city and a small town than between one corner of Piedmont and another.
If you're reading this because your cat is old or unwell, you're already doing something kind: planning ahead. Cats hide illness well, so the end often comes faster than owners expect. In Piedmont, one phone call to your vet or a crematory now can settle the big questions, so that when the time comes you can focus on your cat.

Why cremation is familiar in Piedmont, or isn't
About 38.16%[1] of people in Piedmont are cremated, lower than in many places. Older relatives may expect a garden burial and younger ones may assume cremation. Talk it through if you like, but it's your household's decision. Some families do both: cremation first, then a small burial of the ashes under a plant or stone, so there's still somewhere to visit.
The cremation figure for Piedmont comes from Cremation Society of Great Britain, International Cremation Statistics 2023 (2023). It counts people, not pets, so treat it as a guide to local attitudes rather than a pet statistic.
What cat owners in Piedmont typically pay
In Piedmont, as in most of Europe, your vet is usually the first point of contact and will arrange collection by a pet crematorium, with the fee added to your vet bill. You can also contact a crematorium directly. Ask for the price of individual (private) and collective (communal) cremation for a cat, and whether collection is included.
Some European pet insurers contribute to cremation costs: four Dutch insurers offer some reimbursement[2], for example. Check your policy before you pay in Piedmont. Also ask how long the ashes take; in Sweden, AniCura says ashes normally come back in 2-4 weeks[3], which is longer than many owners expect.
| Country | Collective (communal) | Individual (private) |
|---|---|---|
| Germany (all pets) | €85 to €205[4] | €165 to €375[4] |
| Ireland (cats up to 10 kg) | n/a | €250[5] |
| Ireland (pets under 2 kg) | n/a | from €150[5] |
| Norway (1 to 20 kg) | from NOK 1,190[6] | NOK 3,790[6] |

What Piedmont allows: burial, scattering and more
A cat's ashes are treated very differently from a body: in most places you can keep them, move them between homes or across borders, or carry them on a plane if the container can be screened and the airline agrees. It helps to keep the crematory's certificate with the urn. Local rules bite on two things instead, a body in the ground and ashes on public land, and they're summarized for Piedmont below.
Italy has about 10.2 million pet cats[8], more than its dogs. Pet cremation is widely available through private crematoria, and your vet can usually arrange collection. Ask whether the cremation is individuale (ashes returned) or collettiva. Rules on burying pets on private land are set regionally and locally, so check with your comune first.
The first 48 hours, step by step
- If it's a child's cat, tell them simply and truthfully that the cat has died and won't come back. Avoid "put to sleep" with young children; it can make bedtime frightening.
- Let the child say goodbye if they want to: stroke the cat's fur, tuck in a drawing or choose the blanket your cat will travel in.
- Offer a small job: choosing a photograph, printing the name that will go on the urn, looking after the collar. Having a task makes the loss easier for a child to carry.
- Phone the clinic or a Piedmont pet crematory once the goodbye is done, and choose private cremation if the child will want the ashes back.
- Warn school or daycare that the family has had a loss, so a teacher knows why your child is quiet or upset.
- Plan a small ceremony for when the ashes return: a few quiet minutes at a window or out in the garden is enough. There are more suggestions, age by age, in our guide for families.
Ways to remember your cat locally
If you cared for community cats, remembering one can mean looking after the others: keeping the feeding station going, helping a local trap-neuter-return group or sponsoring a cat at a Piedmont rescue. Some colony caregivers keep a small memorial stone near the spot where the cat used to wait for dinner.
If Piedmont is not quite where you are, all locations has the rest. Otherwise the services page, the tools and the poll results are the useful next stops.

Questions people ask
Where can I scatter my cat's ashes in Piedmont?
Your own garden is the simplest place, and private land with the owner's permission is fine too. Parks, beaches and public land usually have their own rules. Because a cat's ashes are only a cup or so, many families scatter a little and keep the rest in a small urn or keepsake at home.
Do cats outnumber dogs in Piedmont?
In much of Europe, yes: the continent has about 108.3 million[9] pet cats against 89.6 million[10] dogs. The balance differs by country, and in a few places dogs still lead. Either way, every pet crematorium in Piedmont handles cats routinely, and individual cremation for a cat sits in the lowest price band.
Can I arrange cremation for a community or feral cat in Piedmont?
Yes. You don't have to be the registered owner to arrange cremation for a cat you cared for. Ask a vet to scan for a microchip first, in case someone is looking for them. Rescue groups and trap-neuter-return volunteers in Piedmont often know a provider offering low-cost communal cremation, and private cremation is available if you'd like the ashes.
How many communities do you cover in Piedmont?
We currently have local cat cremation guides for 1 communities in Piedmont, including Turin. Each page covers local weather and timing, prices, rules and how pickup usually works there.
Can a vet come to my home to put my cat to sleep anywhere in Piedmont?
In and around larger cities, mobile vets who offer home euthanasia are common, and they're especially popular with cat owners because it avoids the carrier and the car. In rural parts of Piedmont, coverage is patchier and travel fees are more likely. Your regular vet may visit even if they don't advertise it, so ask.
Can I bury my cat in the garden in Piedmont?
Often yes, with conditions such as burial depth, distance from wells and waterways and whether you own the land. Cities, councils and landlords can be stricter than the wider rules. Dig deep enough to keep foxes and dogs away. If you rent or might move, cremation lets you keep your cat with you and bury the ashes later.
