How Italy thinks about cremation
In Italy, where about 38.16%[1] of people are cremated, pet crematories can be further apart than in high-cremation areas, which can mean a wait of a week or two for the ashes. The upside of a cat's size is flexibility: ashes can come back by courier or through your vet, and you can bring your cat to the crematory yourself if the distance is manageable.

Pet crematories are lightly regulated in many places, so it's up to you to ask how they identify each animal and what private really means. The rules in Piedmont mostly cover what happens next: where a cat can be buried and where ashes can be scattered. How do Italy attitudes to cremation compare?
Cremation Society of Great Britain, International Cremation Statistics 2023 (2023) puts the Italy human cremation rate at about 38.16%[1]. We show it on the Turin page because pet aftercare choices tend to track it: where cremation is normal for people, communal and private pet cremation are both easy to find.
Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from Turin?
Usually yes. Genoa is about 77 miles away, Milan is about 78 miles away and Como is about 85 miles away, all inside a normal collection radius. Get the mileage written into the quote so there is no surprise on the day.
What if my cat died outdoors or was hit by a car near Turin?
Bring gloves, a towel and a box, lift your cat gently and take them home or straight to your vet. A vet can scan for a microchip if you're not sure it's your cat, and can arrange cremation from there. A private cremation is still entirely possible, and so is a proper goodbye; the circumstances don't change that. Take someone with you if you can.
Will a pet collection service come to an apartment in Turin?
Yes. City providers regularly collect from apartments and high-rises. Tell them the floor, whether there's an elevator, where they can park and whether the concierge needs notice.
