Cat Cremation in Singapore

Cat Cremation in Singapore: what to know

Whether you live in a capital city or a small town in Singapore, your options for a cat usually come down to individual cremation with the ashes returned, collective cremation without them, or burial where it's allowed. Prices and waiting times vary by area and provider, so a written quote is always worth asking for.

Families across Singapore increasingly bring their cat's ashes home rather than burying their cat in the garden, especially in cities where many cats live indoors and gardens are small or rented. Below you'll find what that costs, the local rules worth knowing and every Singapore city we cover.

We cover 5 communities in Singapore, from Singapore, Bukit Timah and Orchard to smaller towns.

Why cremation is familiar in Singapore, or isn't

Singapore is one of the places where cremation is the clear norm, at about 81.16%[1] for people, and for most cat owners it will feel like the natural choice too. Still, give it a moment's thought. Would you like to keep the ashes, scatter them in the garden your cat watched from the window, or bury them under a plant? The answer decides whether you need a decorative urn now or a simple sealed container until you're ready.

Cremation Society of Great Britain, International Cremation Statistics 2023 (2023) publishes the Singapore rate we quote. Read it as the local custom around cremation rather than as pet data.

What you'll likely pay, and what adds to it

In Tokyo, one memorial park charges about ¥14,300 for communal and ¥22,000 for individual cremation of a pet under 5 kg[2], while some ward collection routes cost less but don't return the ashes[3]. In Singapore, ask any provider whether the ashes come back and what the package covers.

Many pet funeral providers in Singapore sell packages rather than a single cremation price: collection, a short ceremony, individual cremation, an urn and sometimes a niche. Packages can be good value, but compare like with like. Ask for the price of individual cremation on its own, then add extras. In Japan, communal cremation is often about half the price of individual services[4].

What Singapore allows: burial, scattering and more

If your cat was put to sleep, the drug used stays in the body after death and can poison a dog, fox or bird of prey that digs up a grave. That's why many authorities discourage burying euthanized pets anywhere animals can reach them, and why cremation is simpler for most families. The notes below show what Singapore says about burial and scattering.

In Singapore, most families live in flats, so cremation is the norm for cats. NEA directs owners of cats and dogs to commercial animal crematoria. One provider lists private cremation at SGD 280 for a cat under 5 kg[5], with columbarium niches from SGD 300 for the first year. Ask whether the niche fee is separate from the cremation.

What to do first, and what can wait

  1. If your cat dies at night, nobody needs a phone call before daylight. Carry your cat to the coolest room in the house and lay a towel over them.
  2. Put a towel or pad underneath. After death the bladder and bowels often empty, which is ordinary.
  3. Gently curl your cat into a sleeping position within the first few hours, before the body stiffens. It makes the box or basket easier and the goodbye gentler.
  4. In the morning, call your vet or a crematory that serves Singapore. Tell them where your cat is and whether you can bring them in.
  5. Ask for the price in writing, including collection, private or communal cremation and the container for the ashes.
  6. Take a paw print, a lock of fur or their collar before collection if you'd like a keepsake.
  7. Write down the expected return date for the ashes, and the name of whoever will call when they're ready.

Remembering your cat, in Singapore and beyond

Memorial jewelry, glass art with a little ash inside, an engraved garden stone or a portrait painted from a favorite photo are all popular keepsakes. Because a cat leaves only a small amount of ash, decide early how much you'd like to set aside; most makers need only a pinch, but it's easier to keep some back before an urn is sealed.

Questions people ask

How many communities do you cover in Singapore?

We currently have local cat cremation guides for 5 communities in Singapore, including Singapore, Bukit Timah and Orchard. Each page covers local weather and timing, prices, rules and how pickup usually works there.

Can I bury my cat in the garden in Singapore?

Often yes, with conditions such as burial depth, distance from wells and waterways and whether you own the land. Cities, councils and landlords can be stricter than the wider rules. Dig deep enough to keep foxes and dogs away. If you rent or might move, cremation lets you keep your cat with you and bury the ashes later.

Where can I scatter my cat's ashes in Singapore?

Your own garden is the simplest place, and private land with the owner's permission is fine too. Parks, beaches and public land usually have their own rules. Because a cat's ashes are only a cup or so, many families scatter a little and keep the rest in a small urn or keepsake at home.

Is cat cremation cheaper in small towns in Singapore?

Sometimes, but not always. Small-town vets often have lower fees and a set collection day with a regional crematory, which keeps costs down. On the other hand, mileage charges for a home collection can cost more than the cremation of a cat. Bringing your cat in yourself is the easiest saving anywhere.

Can a vet come to my home to put my cat to sleep anywhere in Singapore?

In and around larger cities, mobile vets who offer home euthanasia are common, and they're especially popular with cat owners because it avoids the carrier and the car. In rural parts of Singapore, coverage is patchier and travel fees are more likely. Your regular vet may visit even if they don't advertise it, so ask.

Is cat cremation common in Singapore?

For people, about 81.16%[1] of deaths in Singapore end in cremation, and pet aftercare tends to follow local habits. Among families who want to keep their cat close, cremation is now the most common choice, especially in towns and cities where many cats live indoors.
