Cat cremation in Corinth

Corinth, Texas

How cat cremation works in Corinth

Lewisville Lake's shoreline parks and the wooded trails around town are where many Corinth residents spent weekends outside with their animals. If you're thinking of scattering some ashes by the water, check with the agency that manages that stretch of shoreline first. A lot of families decide to keep the ashes together at home instead, at least until they're sure.

Corinth's hottest month is July, when highs reach about 96F, and January nights can dip to around 34F. In summer, a pet who dies should be moved promptly to the coolest spot in the house, laid on an old blanket, with cold packs covered in cloth pressed along the sides. In winter, a cold garage usually buys you time, though an ice storm can slow traffic on I-35E.

Distance is the thing to ask about in and around Corinth. A crematory in a larger centre such as Frisco may cover your address, but some charge by the mile beyond a set radius, and an out-of-hours trip can cost more than the cremation of a cat itself. Because a cat is easy to carry, driving them to the vet or the crematory yourself is often the simplest way to avoid that fee.

With roughly 25,297 residents, Corinth is the 127th-largest of the 325 Texas communities we cover. The nearest larger centre is Frisco, about 14 miles (23 km) away, which is where some providers serving Corinth are based.

Our pages for Denton (6 miles, a larger centre), Lewisville (8 miles, a larger centre) and Flower Mound (9 miles, a larger centre) describe the same choices from those towns' point of view, and the providers overlap, so a quote from one often covers Corinth as well.

Our estimate

3,950

How many cat-owning households Corinth has (estimate)

How we calculated this

25,297 ÷ 2.5 = 10,119 households; × 39% (cat) = 3,950. A household with several pets counts once.

Our estimate

350

cat deaths per year in Corinth, our estimate

How we calculated this

3,950 cat-owning homes ÷ average lifespan (cat: 11.18 yrs) ≈ 350 a year. The real figure is unlikely to be lower.

39%[1]

39% of US households own a cat, which is about 53 million households.

11.18 years[2]

US cats seen at Banfield hospitals have an average life expectancy at birth of 11.18 years.

55.7%[3]

The NFDA projected Texas's cremation rate at 55.7% for 2024.

clinic $158; home $359; cremation $180; burial $566[4]

CareCredit's 2025 study put US cat euthanasia at $158 in clinic and $359 at home, cat cremation at $180 and cat cemetery burial at $566.

The local attitude to cremation

About 55.7%[3] of people in Texas choose cremation, and the share keeps climbing as families move and live further apart. That's one of the most common reasons cat owners choose it too: a small urn travels, a garden grave doesn't. If there's already a spot on family land where other cats are buried, though, burying the ashes there can give you both.

Seasons, collection and burial in Corinth

Flies are the hidden problem in Corinth's warm months, especially around July. Keep your cat inside, in a box with a lid or a towel tucked firmly around them, and close windows in that room. It's not about hygiene rules; it's about keeping the goodbye the way you want to remember it. If collection is more than a few hours away, ask your vet to hold your cat in their cold room.

Don't leave your cat in a car or on a porch in Corinth's summer heat, even for a short while. If you're driving your cat to the vet or crematory yourself, cool the car first, put your cat in a carrier or lined box on the floor behind a seat, out of the sun, and go straight there. Most clinics will meet you at the door if you call ahead.

What you'll likely pay, and what adds to it

Where you live in the US moves the price. Pet care spending in the Seattle metro ran more than 30% above the national average in early 2025[5], while San Antonio, St Louis and Atlanta sat below it[6]. In Corinth, use the table as a guide, then ask local providers for an itemized total rather than relying on a national average.

Multiply it out: roughly 350 cats a year in Corinth (our estimate) at the national private-cremation average of clinic $158; home $359; cremation $180; burial $566[4] is about $0.1 million of local spending. That is why it pays to ask two providers, not one.

Burial, ashes and the rules in Texas

You don't need a permit to have your cat cremated, but what you do afterwards, burying them in the garden or scattering their ashes in a park, can be governed by local rules. Here's what applies in Texas.

Not sure which office covers Corinth? The Texas local government directory is the official list.

The Texas page sets out who oversees pet cremation and what the state says about burial and scattering. Corinth's own bylaws can sit on top of that, so ask before you dig.

What to do next, one step at a time

  1. If your cat died at the clinic or an emergency hospital, whether on the operating table, in oxygen or on fluids through the night, you can walk out without having decided anything. The team can hold your cat in their cold storage until you've had time to think.
  2. Ask to see your cat if you missed the moment. Hospitals will usually wrap your cat in a blanket and bring them into a private room, and people often find it helps far more than they thought it would.
  3. Request a copy of the notes when a death came out of nowhere. A post-mortem is an option too, but only before the cremation, so raise it straight away if you want one.
  4. Tell the hospital which crematory you want. The provider an emergency hospital normally uses isn't necessarily your regular vet's, and you can pick either, or one you found on your own.
  5. Check that the hospital records private or communal correctly on the release form, and ask for a copy with your cat's name on it.
  6. Collect your cat's collar, carrier and blanket, or have the staff keep the blanket with your cat for the journey.

Memorials and keepsakes for your cat

Corinth is a Denton County suburb on I-35E between Denton and Lewisville, about 14 miles from Frisco. Housing is mainly subdivisions dating from the 1980s onward, with fenced backyards and quiet cul-de-sacs, and the eastern edge of town runs down to Lewisville Lake. Providers from Denton and Lewisville cover Corinth, and arranging a pickup at the house is rarely difficult.

Questions people ask

Will I have to travel to Frisco to arrange things?

Not usually. Providers based in Frisco (roughly 14 miles from Corinth) collect from here as a matter of routine, and the paperwork is done by email or phone. If you want to be present for a witnessed cremation, that is when the drive matters.

Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from Corinth?

Usually yes. Denton is about 6 miles away, Lewisville is about 8 miles away and Flower Mound is about 9 miles away, all inside a normal collection radius. Get the mileage written into the quote so there is no surprise on the day.

How does Corinth's weather affect cat aftercare?

July is the hottest month in Corinth, with average highs around 96°F, so prompt collection matters most then. Winters are mild, with average lows staying above freezing, so outdoor burial or scattering is usually possible year round.

Why does the Corinth page quote a human cremation rate?

Because it is the best local signal we have. NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024) reports about 55.7%[3] of Texas residents are cremated. There is no official pet equivalent, and inventing one would be worse than quoting a real, clearly labelled number.

How do I know I'm getting my own cat's ashes back?

Ask the provider how they track each animal. Careful crematories use a numbered tag, often metal, that stays with your cat from collection through cremation and returns with the ashes, along with a certificate. Ask whether private means your cat is alone in the chamber, since some providers use partitioned cremation. Get the answer in writing.

How much ash will I get back from my cat?

Much less than people expect. Cremated remains weigh about 3 to 5% of body weight[8], so a 12 lb cat would be expected to return about 6.7 oz[9], roughly a teacup's worth. An urn of about 12 cubic inches is usually enough[10]. Our urn size calculator works it out from your cat's weight.
