Cat cremation in Lebanon: how it usually works
Lebanon sits among the cedar glades of Middle Tennessee, with Cedars of Lebanon State Park just south of town. Summers here peak near 89°F, and the three winter months each bring nights below freezing, which shapes any practical plans. On a hot afternoon, bring your pet somewhere air-conditioned and call a provider promptly; in winter, a cool garage can give you a little extra time.
Lebanon is the seat of Wilson County, about 24 miles east of Nashville along I-40, with a historic square at its center, Cumberland University nearby, and newer neighborhoods spreading outward. Some households are on small in-town lots, others on acreage where pasture begins. When you ask about a home collection, mention whether you are inside the city or out along a county road.
Word travels in a place like Lebanon. You may find neighbors asking after your cat, the vet sending a card or someone at the feed store remembering the cat who sat on your porch. Let people help if you can. If your cat went missing and was found on a road, a neighbor may be the one who tells you; it's a hard way to learn, and it's fine to ask them to help you bring your cat home.
Lebanon is home to about 53,412 people, the 16th-largest of the 35 Tennessee communities we cover. Some of the providers who serve Lebanon are based about 24 miles away in Nashville, the nearest larger centre, so collection times reflect that drive.
The closest communities we cover are Mount Juliet (9 miles), Gallatin (14 miles) and Hendersonville (16 miles). Providers serving those towns often travel to Lebanon too, so it can be worth asking them for a quote.
Our estimate
8,350
Lebanon: cat-owning households, our estimate
How we calculated this
53,412 ÷ 2.5 = 21,365 households; × 39% (cat) = 8,350. Homes are counted once however many pets they keep.
Our estimate
750
Lebanon families who lose a cat each year (estimate)
How we calculated this
8,350 cat-owning homes ÷ average lifespan (cat: 11.18 yrs) ≈ 750 a year. The real figure is unlikely to be lower.
39%[1]
39% of US households own a cat, which is about 53 million households.
11.18 years[2]
US cats seen at Banfield hospitals have an average life expectancy at birth of 11.18 years.
48.9%[3]
The NFDA projected Tennessee's cremation rate at 48.9% for 2024.
clinic $158; home $359; cremation $180; burial $566[4]
CareCredit's 2025 study put US cat euthanasia at $158 in clinic and $359 at home, cat cremation at $180 and cat cemetery burial at $566.

How Tennessee thinks about cremation
Burial runs deep in Tennessee, with only about 48.9%[3] of people cremated. For a cat, a grave in the garden is still a very common choice, and a loving one where it's allowed. If you're leaning towards cremation instead, you won't be alone: it keeps options open, including burying the ashes later in a place you'll always be able to reach.
That Tennessee rate is a human one, published by NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024). We quote it for Lebanon only as a pointer to how families here already think about cremation.
Weather, timing and your cat in Lebanon
If you're taking your cat to the vet or crematory yourself, the season changes how. In summer, cool the car first and go straight there; a parked car in Lebanon heats up within minutes. In winter, a cold car is fine, but allow extra time on icy roads. Either way, a towel underneath and a blanket over the top keeps things dignified.
Outdoor cats in a place with Lebanon's seasons face both kinds of risk: heat and traffic on long summer evenings, then cold, car engines and antifreeze in winter. If you lose an outdoor cat suddenly, in any season, you can still choose a private cremation and still say goodbye properly. Wrap them in a towel, place them in a box in a cool spot and call your vet in the morning if it's late.

Cat cremation costs around Lebanon
Where you live in the US moves the price. Pet care spending in the Seattle metro ran more than 30% above the national average in early 2025[5], while San Antonio, St Louis and Atlanta sat below it[6]. In Lebanon, use the table as a guide, then ask local providers for an itemized total rather than relying on a national average.
Put another way: around 750 cats die in Lebanon each year (our estimate), and private cremation averages clinic $158; home $359; cremation $180; burial $566[4] nationally. That adds up to roughly $0.1 million a year locally, which is why prices and packages differ so much from one provider to the next.
Rather than repeat the price table on every city page, we keep one for Tennessee: Tennessee costs. What each service includes is on the services page.

Rules worth knowing in Tennessee
Most of the decisions after a cat dies are yours alone. The exceptions are burial and scattering, which Tennessee and your local council or city may regulate, and, in some places, updating your cat's microchip record so the database knows they've died.
To find your county or city office in Tennessee, start with the official Tennessee local government directory.
The rules that apply across Tennessee (home burial, scattering and who oversees pet cremation) are summarized on our Tennessee page. Lebanon may add its own conditions, so check with the city or county before digging.
What to do first, and what can wait
- If your cat dies at night, you don't need to call anyone until morning. Move your cat to a cool room and cover them with a towel.
- Put a towel or pad underneath. After death the bladder and bowels often empty, which is ordinary.
- Gently curl your cat into a sleeping position within the first few hours, before the body stiffens. It makes the box or basket easier and the goodbye gentler.
- In the morning, call your vet or a crematory covering Lebanon. Let them know where your cat is now and whether you're able to drive them over.
- Ask for the price in writing, and make sure it covers pickup, the type of cremation (private or communal) and whatever the ashes come home in.
- Take a paw print, a lock of fur or their collar before collection if you'd like a keepsake.
- Write down the expected return date for the ashes and who will contact you when they're ready.
Memorials and keepsakes for your cat
Plenty of Lebanon families live with several animals, from house cats and small pets to backyard chickens. When one dies, the others may search for it, so letting them see or sniff the body before collection can help. Families also often ask whether a provider offers individual cremation, which returns only your pet's ashes, or communal, which costs less and returns none.

Questions people ask
Is cremation common in Tennessee?
For people, yes: about 48.9%[3] of Tennessee deaths end in cremation, according to NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024). Nobody publishes the same figure for pets, but in our experience pet choices in Lebanon follow the human pattern closely, so cremation is the default most families here start from.
How many cat owners live in Lebanon?
By our estimate, about 8,350 households in Lebanon have at least one cat, and around 750 are lost each year. We calculate this from the city's population of about 53,412, the average household size and national ownership and lifespan figures, so treat it as a floor rather than an exact count.
Which nearby towns can I compare with Lebanon?
The closest communities we cover are Mount Juliet (about 9 miles), Gallatin (about 14 miles) and Hendersonville (about 16 miles). Providers based in those places often serve Lebanon too. Ask each one for a written total that includes collection, so the distance is priced in.
Where are the providers that serve Lebanon actually based?
Some are local, and some run from Nashville, about 24 miles away. That is normal for a town this size. What matters is the collection time they quote for Lebanon and whether the drive is priced into the total, so ask both up front.
Why did my cat hide before they died?
Hiding is instinct. A cat who feels ill or weak looks for somewhere small, quiet and protected, like under a bed, in a closet or beneath a deck. It doesn't mean your cat was frightened of you or that you missed something obvious; cats are very good at concealing illness until late. Many owners find their cat this way, and it's okay to need help with what comes next.
Do crematories charge extra to collect from a rural address near Lebanon?
Some do. Many include collection within a set distance and charge per mile beyond it, or add a flat fee for remote or out-of-hours trips, and for a cat that fee can exceed the cremation itself. Ask for the collection price separately. Driving your cat to your vet or the crematory in a carrier is the easiest way to avoid it.
