Central Point, Oregon
Cat cremation in Central Point: how it usually works
Upper and Lower Table Rock, the flat-topped mesas rising north of town, are among the most familiar hikes in the valley, and the Bear Creek Greenway path passes along Central Point's eastern side. After a loss, many residents feel pulled back to them. The Table Rocks are protected land with their own rules, so a garden bed or a corner of your own yard is a simpler place for ashes.
Rogue Valley heat is no joke. August afternoons in Central Point average about 91F and often climb past 100F, while January nights drop to around 31F with frost from December through February. In summer, lay your pet on a cool tile or concrete floor, keep a fan running and plan for pickup within a few hours. In the cold months, a garage buys you more time.
If your cat is old or ill and you live in or near Central Point, a phone call now is easier than one later. Ask your vet which crematory they use, what private cremation costs for a cat, how long the ashes take to come back and whether a home visit is possible. Senior cats often decline quietly, with weight loss and more sleep, so having those answers written down lets you spend the last days with your cat rather than on the phone.
With roughly 19,139 residents, Central Point is the 31st-largest of the 34 Oregon communities we cover.
Families in Central Point often end up using a provider from Medford (4 miles, a larger centre), Ashland (16 miles) and Roseburg (63 miles). That is normal: crematories serve a radius, not a single town, and the drive is priced into collection.

How Oregon thinks about cremation
Oregon is one of the places where cremation is the clear norm, at about 77.7%[3] for people, and for most cat owners it will feel like the natural choice too. Still, give it a moment's thought. Would you like to keep the ashes, scatter them in the garden your cat watched from the window, or bury them under a plant? The answer decides whether you need a decorative urn now or a simple sealed container until you're ready.
That Oregon rate is a human one, published by Direct Cremate (citing CANA) (2024). We quote it for Central Point only as a pointer to how families here already think about cremation.
Central Point weather and timing
Indoor cats who spend winter pressed against radiators and sunny windows can hide a slow decline for weeks. If an older cat in Central Point is sleeping more, eating less or losing weight through January, February and December, mention it to your vet. And if you plan a home goodbye in winter, choose a warm room, lay out their bed and make sure the collection team has a clear, salted path to the door.
Central Point winters are cold, with average lows at or below freezing in January, February and December. That gives you a little more time after a death in winter, but it also means frozen ground. If you were hoping to bury your cat in the garden, you may not be able to dig until spring, which is one reason many local families choose cremation first and bury the ashes later.

Cat cremation prices for Central Point families
Most Central Point families pay somewhere in the ranges below. Private cremation for a pet up to 30 lb, which covers almost every cat, typically runs $100 to $175, and communal about $45 to $75[5]. If you'd like a vet to come to the house, cat euthanasia averages about $359 at home against $158 in a clinic[4], roughly 2.27x[6] the price.
Multiply it out: roughly 270 cats a year in Central Point (our estimate) at the national private-cremation average of clinic $158; home $359; cremation $180; burial $566[4] is about $0 million of local spending. That is why it pays to ask two providers, not one.

What Oregon allows: burial, scattering and more
Before you bury, scatter or plan a memorial, it's worth checking what Oregon allows. Keeping ashes at home is allowed everywhere we know of. Burying a whole cat and scattering in public places are where rules come in, usually to protect water supplies and shared spaces, and renters normally need the landlord's permission for any garden burial.

For Oregon's rules on burying a pet at home or scattering ashes, see the Oregon guide. Local rules in Central Point can be stricter than the state's, especially in homeowners' associations and rentals.
What to do first, and what can wait
- If your cat died at the clinic or an emergency hospital, whether on the operating table, in oxygen or on fluids through the night, you can walk out without having decided anything. The team can hold your cat in their cold storage until you've had time to think.
- Ask to see your cat if you missed the moment. Hospitals will usually wrap your cat in a blanket and bring them into a private room, and people often find it helps far more than they thought it would.
- Request a copy of the notes when a death came out of nowhere. A post-mortem is an option too, but only before the cremation, so raise it straight away if you want one.
- Tell the hospital which crematory you want. The provider an emergency hospital normally uses isn't necessarily your regular vet's, and you can pick either, or one you found on your own.
- Check that the hospital records private or communal correctly on the release form, and ask for a copy with your cat's name on it.
- Collect your cat's collar, carrier and blanket, or ask the team to send the blanket with your cat.
Memorials and keepsakes for your cat
Central Point lies just northwest of Medford in Jackson County, so close that the two towns meet along I-5 without a break in the houses. The older blocks near Pine Street feel like a small farm town, while newer subdivisions spread west and north toward open ground. Most homes are easy to reach, but if you're on acreage out toward the Table Rocks or down a gravel drive, mention it when arranging a collection.

Questions people ask
When is the hardest time of year to arrange a burial in Central Point?
January, February and December: average lows are below freezing then, and frozen ground makes a home grave slow or impossible until it thaws. The other pressure point is August, when highs around 91°F mean a body needs cooling and collecting quickly.
Which nearby towns can I compare with Central Point?
The closest communities we cover are Medford (about 4 miles), Ashland (about 16 miles) and Roseburg (about 63 miles). Providers based in those places often serve Central Point too. Ask each one for a written total that includes collection, so the distance is priced in.
How do Oregon attitudes to cremation compare?
Direct Cremate (citing CANA) (2024) puts the Oregon human cremation rate at about 77.7%[3]. We show it on the Central Point page because pet aftercare choices tend to track it: where cremation is normal for people, communal and private pet cremation are both easy to find.
How many cat owners live in Central Point?
By our estimate, about 3,000 households in Central Point have at least one cat, and around 270 are lost each year. We calculate this from the city's population of about 19,139, the average household size and national ownership and lifespan figures, so treat it as a floor rather than an exact count.
Can I take my cat to the crematory myself?
Usually, yes, and with a cat it's easy. Call first to agree a time, then place your cat in a carrier or a box lined with a blanket, on the floor or back seat of the car, and drive straight there. Many families find this last drive meaningful. It also saves the collection fee, which for a cat can be a large part of the total.
Could antifreeze or a car engine have caused my outdoor cat's death?
It's possible in winter. Antifreeze tastes sweet to cats and is highly toxic, and cats sometimes shelter in engine bays for warmth. If an outdoor cat dies suddenly in cold weather, tell your vet what you know before cremation; they can advise whether an examination is worthwhile. Warning neighbors about spills can protect other cats.
