Weather, timing and your cat in Gulfport

What's allowed in Mississippi after your cat dies
One rule matters more than any other if your cat bit or scratched someone in the last couple of weeks, or died after sudden changes in behavior: tell your vet before anything else. Where rabies occurs, public health rules may require testing, and that has to happen before cremation. In almost every other case, the rules below only come into play once you choose what to do with the ashes or the body.

Step by step in Gulfport
- Take a breath. Nothing has to happen in the next hour. If your cat died at home, lay them on a towel, close their eyes if you can and tuck their legs in as if they were sleeping.
- Take anything you want to keep now: a small clipping of fur from the chest or behind a back leg, shed whiskers from their bed, their collar or tag.

Keeping your cat close
Gulfport rarely freezes, with January lows around 44F, but August averages near 90F with heavy Gulf humidity. After a pet dies here, heat is the urgent concern: bring your pet into air conditioning, lay it on a towel over ice packs, and arrange collection the same day if you can. Which nearby towns can I compare with Gulfport?
The closest communities we cover are Biloxi (about 13 miles), Ocean Springs (about 18 miles) and Gautier (about 26 miles). Providers based in those places often serve Gulfport too. Ask each one for a written total that includes collection, so the distance is priced in.
Will I have to travel to New Orleans to arrange things?
