If you leave your cat at the clinic without choosing, most practices will arrange communal cremation by default, and you won't get ashes back. That's legal and dignified, but it can't be undone. The first 48 hours, step by step
- If your cat died at the clinic or an emergency hospital, during surgery, in an oxygen cage or overnight on a drip, nothing needs deciding before you leave. Ask the team to keep your cat in their cold room while you think.
- Ask to see your cat if you weren't there. Most hospitals will bring your cat to a quiet room wrapped in a blanket, and many owners say it helped more than they expected.

- Collect your cat's collar, carrier and blanket, or have the staff keep the blanket with your cat for the journey.

Will I have to travel to Atlanta to arrange things?
Not usually. Providers based in Atlanta (roughly 17 miles from Marietta) collect from here as a matter of routine, and the paperwork is done by email or phone. If you want to be present for a witnessed cremation, that is when the drive matters.
