Parkland, Florida
How cat cremation works in Parkland
Parkland, in the far northwest corner of Broward County, is a city of large lots, gated communities and newer family neighborhoods at the edge of the Everglades conservation lands. Homes are spread out, and main routes are the Sawgrass Expressway, Loxahatchee Road and State Road 7. When arranging collection, give your community name, gate instructions and any shortcut the navigation app tends to miss.
August in Parkland peaks near 91F, and January nights settle around 58F, so the heat never fully lets up. Once your pet has died, lower the thermostat, lay them on a soft blanket on the tile or wood floor and position frozen packs, swaddled in a hand towel, near the spine. Before a hurricane, gated communities may limit entry, which can delay a collection.
Families in and around Parkland often combine local and regional help: the goodbye happens at home or with the local vet, and the cremation itself takes place in a larger centre such as Hialeah. If you'd like a witnessed cremation, ask early, as it may mean a drive. A cat travels easily in a lined basket on the back seat, and some crematories will give you a time to arrive.
About 39,186 people live in Parkland, which makes it the 79th-largest of the 235 Florida communities we cover. The nearest larger centre is Hialeah, about 32 miles (52 km) away, which is where some providers serving Parkland are based.
Parkland sits within easy reach of Coral Springs (4 miles, a larger centre), Coconut Creek (5 miles) and Margate (6 miles). A provider based in any of them will usually collect from Parkland; ask what the mileage adds to the bill.

How Florida thinks about cremation
Florida is one of the places where cremation is the clear norm, at about 72.5%[3] for people, and for most cat owners it will feel like the natural choice too. Still, give it a moment's thought. Would you like to keep the ashes, scatter them in the garden your cat watched from the window, or bury them under a plant? The answer decides whether you need a decorative urn now or a simple sealed container until you're ready.
NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024) is where the Florida figure comes from. It counts people; we use it because attitudes to cremating a pet in Parkland tend to follow attitudes to cremation generally.
Weather, timing and your cat in Parkland
In Parkland, August highs average about 91°F. Older cats, especially those with kidney disease, dehydrate quickly in that kind of heat, and many owners notice a senior cat eating less and sleeping more through the summer. If you're weighing timing, tell your vet what you're seeing. A goodbye in the cool of the morning, in your cat's usual spot, can be gentler for everyone.
Heat also shapes the goodbye itself. If you're planning a home euthanasia in August, book a morning or evening slot when the house is cooler and your cat is more settled, and ask whether the vet can take your cat for cremation straight afterwards so you don't need to arrange a separate pickup.

What cat owners in Parkland typically pay
Most Parkland families pay somewhere in the ranges below. Private cremation for a pet up to 30 lb, which covers almost every cat, typically runs $100 to $175, and communal about $45 to $75[5]. If you'd like a vet to come to the house, cat euthanasia averages about $359 at home against $158 in a clinic[4], roughly 2.27x[6] the price.
By our estimate Parkland families would spend around $0.1 million a year if every one of the roughly 550 cats lost here were privately cremated at clinic $158; home $359; cremation $180; burial $566[4], the national average. Competition for that work is real, so quotes differ.

Burial, ashes and the rules in Florida
If your cat was put to sleep, the drug used stays in the body after death and can poison a dog, fox or bird of prey that digs up a grave. That's why many authorities discourage burying euthanized pets anywhere animals can reach them, and why cremation is simpler for most families. The notes below show what Florida says about burial and scattering.
To find your county or city office in Florida, start with the official Florida local government directory.
The Florida page sets out who oversees pet cremation and what the state says about burial and scattering. Parkland's own bylaws can sit on top of that, so ask before you dig.
The first 48 hours, step by step
- Say goodbye in your own way. There's no rush. Many families sit with their cat for an hour or two, and it's fine to hold them.
- Let your other cats see the body if there are others at home. One might sniff and leave; another might settle beside their friend for a while. Both are ordinary.
- Make a keepsake if the idea appeals. Paw prints can only be made before the cremation, and clipping fur is simpler now than later.
- Contact a provider yourself or via your vet. If you'd rather, we can send you local options.
- Choose private or communal, and ask for written confirmation of which one it is.
- Plan where the ashes will go. There's no deadline on this. What comes back from a cat is small enough to keep in a modest container on a shelf until you know what you want.
Remembering your cat in Parkland
Parkland families often spent weekend mornings with their animals at Pine Trails Park or Terramar Park, or on the quiet paths around neighborhood lakes. A remembrance might start with a return visit to one of those spots. Parkland's parks department sets the rules on scattering, so call before planning anything there. Plenty of households simply bring the urn back to the family room.

Questions people ask
Which nearby towns can I compare with Parkland?
The closest communities we cover are Coral Springs (about 4 miles), Coconut Creek (about 5 miles) and Margate (about 6 miles). Providers based in those places often serve Parkland too. Ask each one for a written total that includes collection, so the distance is priced in.
Why does the Parkland page quote a human cremation rate?
Because it is the best local signal we have. NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024) reports about 72.5%[3] of Florida residents are cremated. There is no official pet equivalent, and inventing one would be worse than quoting a real, clearly labelled number.
How many cat owners live in Parkland?
By our estimate, about 6,100 households in Parkland have at least one cat, and around 550 are lost each year. We calculate this from the city's population of about 39,186, the average household size and national ownership and lifespan figures, so treat it as a floor rather than an exact count.
Will I have to travel to Hialeah to arrange things?
Not usually. Providers based in Hialeah (roughly 32 miles from Parkland) collect from here as a matter of routine, and the paperwork is done by email or phone. If you want to be present for a witnessed cremation, that is when the drive matters.
Is pet cremation regulated in Florida?
By one directory's count, only nine US states have laws aimed specifically at pet crematories[8], and as of 2026 just two require written documentation to be given to owners[9]. Whether or not Florida is one of them, ask any provider how they identify your cat, whether private means your cat is alone in the chamber, and for all of it in writing.
Do crematories charge extra to collect from a rural address near Parkland?
Some do. Many include collection within a set distance and charge per mile beyond it, or add a flat fee for remote or out-of-hours trips, and for a cat that fee can exceed the cremation itself. Ask for the collection price separately. Driving your cat to your vet or the crematory in a carrier is the easiest way to avoid it.
