If the crematory serving Lake Nona only collects from your vet once a week, you may need to keep your cat at home for a few days. Wrapped in a towel, then sealed in a strong plastic bag, a cat keeps well in a chest freezer, and your vet may offer theirs. It sounds hard, but it's common practice in rural areas and doesn't affect cremation or any keepsakes you'd like.

Where are the providers that serve Lake Nona actually based?
Some are local, and some run from Orlando, about 13 miles away. That is normal for a town this size. What matters is the collection time they quote for Lake Nona and whether the drive is priced into the total, so ask both up front.
Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from Lake Nona?
Usually yes. Meadow Woods is about 5 miles away, Buenaventura Lakes is about 6 miles away and Narcoossee is about 6 miles away, all inside a normal collection radius. Get the mileage written into the quote so there is no surprise on the day.
Why does the Lake Nona page quote a human cremation rate?

What's the difference between private and communal cremation for a cat?
In a private cremation your cat is cremated alone and every bit of ash returned is theirs. In a communal cremation several animals are cremated together and no ashes come back; they're usually scattered in a memorial garden. Some providers also offer partitioned cremation, where pets share the chamber with dividers. Private typically costs about 2.0x[5] the communal price.
Do crematories charge extra to collect from a rural address near Lake Nona?
Some do. Many include collection within a set distance and charge per mile beyond it, or add a flat fee for remote or out-of-hours trips, and for a cat that fee can exceed the cremation itself. Ask for the collection price separately. Driving your cat to your vet or the crematory in a carrier is the easiest way to avoid it.
Can I bury my cat in the garden in Florida?
In many places you can, with conditions such as depth, distance from water and owning the property. Rules vary within Florida, so check with your city or council before digging. Dig deep enough to keep foxes, coyotes and dogs away. If you rent or might move, cremation lets you keep your cat with you and bury the ashes later if you wish.
