The local attitude to cremation
When cremation is as routine as it is in California (roughly 70.5%[3] of human funerals), the risk is assuming rather than asking. A busy clinic may note "cremation" without saying which kind. Say the words you mean, private with ashes returned or communal without, and ask for them on the form. It's a two-minute check that prevents a mistake nobody can fix later.

Timing your cat's aftercare in Corona's climate

Burial and scattering rules for California
One rule matters more than any other if your cat bit or scratched someone in the last couple of weeks, or died after sudden changes in behavior: tell your vet before anything else. Where rabies occurs, public health rules may require testing, and that has to happen before cremation. In almost every other case, the rules below only come into play once you choose what to do with the ashes or the body.

What to do next, one step at a time
- If your cat dies at night, nobody needs a phone call before daylight. Carry your cat to the coolest room in the house and lay a towel over them.
- Put a towel or pad underneath. It's normal for a cat's bladder or bowels to release after death.

Is cremation common in California?
For people, yes: about 70.5%[3] of California deaths end in cremation, according to NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024). Nobody publishes the same figure for pets, but in our experience pet choices in Corona follow the human pattern closely, so cremation is the default most families here start from.
Which nearby towns can I compare with Corona?
