Some let you bury a cat's ashes in a small plot or niche rather than a full grave, which costs far less and gives you somewhere to visit. That's why many authorities discourage burying euthanized pets anywhere animals can reach them, and why cremation is simpler for most families. Spain is one of the European countries where dogs outnumber cats, with about 6.0 million pet cats[7]. Most vets work with a pet crematorium and can arrange incineración individual, which returns your cat's ashes, or collective cremation, which doesn't. Rules on burying pets at home vary by region and are often strict in towns.
What to do when your cat dies in Valencia
- Say goodbye in your own way. Nobody is waiting on you. Plenty of people spend an hour or two beside their cat, and holding them is perfectly fine.
- Let your other cats see the body if you have them. Some sniff and walk away, some lie down beside their companion. Either is normal.
- Make a keepsake if you'd like one. A paw print must be taken before cremation, and fur is easier to clip now too.
