Cat Cremation in Aichi: what to know
The biggest cost differences for cat owners in Aichi come from three things: private or communal cremation, how your cat gets to the crematory and any keepsakes you add. A home collection after hours can cost almost as much as the cremation of a cat itself. Knowing that in advance lets you decide where to save and where to spend.
In Aichi, as in most places, the vet is where the process usually starts. That's no bad thing: vets see loss often and work with local crematories. But you're not obliged to use the provider your vet suggests. Calling a crematory directly, or bringing your cat in yourself, is normal and can save money for exactly the same service.

Cremation in Aichi, and what it means for cat owners
When cremation is as routine as it is in Aichi (roughly 99.97%[1] of human funerals), the risk is assuming rather than asking. A busy clinic may note "cremation" without saying which kind. Say the words you mean, private with ashes returned or communal without, and ask for them on the form. It's a two-minute check that prevents a mistake nobody can fix later.
The cremation figure for Aichi comes from Cremation Society of Great Britain, International Cremation Statistics 2023 (2023). It counts people, not pets, so treat it as a guide to local attitudes rather than a pet statistic.
Cat cremation prices for Aichi families
Pet funeral customs in much of Asia are more elaborate than in the West, and prices reflect that: a simple cremation for a cat can be modest, while a full funeral with a ceremony and a columbarium niche costs considerably more. The table shows published examples for small pets like cats.
Many pet funeral providers in Aichi sell packages rather than a single cremation price: collection, a short ceremony, individual cremation, an urn and sometimes a niche. Packages can be good value, but compare like with like. Ask for the price of individual cremation on its own, then add extras. In Japan, communal cremation is often about half the price of individual services[2].
| Place | Example price | What's included |
|---|---|---|
| Singapore (cat under 5 kg) | SGD 160 communal / SGD 280 private[3] | Columbarium niches extra |
| Tokyo (pet under 5 kg) | ¥14,300 communal / ¥22,000 individual[4] | Tax included |
| Hong Kong (1 to 5 kg pet) | HKD 1,300 individual[5] | Basic individual cremation |
| Japan (1 to 5 kg pet) | about ¥60,000[6] | Funeral package with ceremony |

What Aichi allows: burial, scattering and more
If your cat was put to sleep, the drug used stays in the body after death and can poison a dog, fox or bird of prey that digs up a grave. That's why many authorities discourage burying euthanized pets anywhere animals can reach them, and why cremation is simpler for most families. The notes below show what Aichi says about burial and scattering.
Japan has about 8.847 million[8] pet cats, more than its dogs, and indoor-only cats live 16.34 years[9] on average, about two years longer than cats that go outside[10]. Legally, pets are treated as waste[11], and some ward collection routes don't return ashes[12]. Pet funerals with a short ceremony are common; ask whether the ashes are returned (返骨).
A simple checklist for the next two days
- If your cat dies at night, nobody needs a phone call before daylight. Carry your cat to the coolest room in the house and lay a towel over them.
- Put a towel or pad underneath. It's normal for a cat's bladder or bowels to release after death.
- Gently curl your cat into a sleeping position during the first hours, while the body is still soft. They'll fit the basket or box more easily, and they'll look more peaceful when you say goodbye.
- In the morning, call your vet or a crematory that serves Aichi. Tell them where your cat is and whether you can bring them in.
- Ask for the price in writing, and make sure it covers pickup, the type of cremation (private or communal) and whatever the ashes come home in.
- Take a paw print, a lock of fur or their collar now, ahead of the pickup, if a keepsake would mean something.
- Write down the expected return date for the ashes, and the name of whoever will call when they're ready.
Keeping your cat's memory close in Aichi
If you cared for community cats, remembering one can mean looking after the others: keeping the feeding station going, helping a local trap-neuter-return group or sponsoring a cat at an Aichi rescue. Some colony caregivers keep a small memorial stone near the spot where the cat used to wait for dinner.

Questions people ask
Do I need a permit to have my cat cremated in Aichi?
No. Families don't need a permit to have a cat cremated anywhere we cover. Any licensing applies to the crematory itself, and rules on burial and scattering are set separately. If you plan to bury your cat's body in the garden or scatter ashes on public land, check the local rules for that part first.
How many communities do you cover in Aichi?
We currently have local cat cremation guides for 1 communities in Aichi, including Nagoya. Each page covers local weather and timing, prices, rules and how pickup usually works there.
Is cat cremation common in Aichi?
For people, about 99.97%[1] of deaths in Aichi end in cremation, and pet aftercare tends to follow local habits. Among families who want to keep their cat close, cremation is now the most common choice, especially in towns and cities where many cats live indoors.
Is cat cremation cheaper in small towns in Aichi?
Sometimes, but not always. Small-town vets often have lower fees and a set collection day with a regional crematory, which keeps costs down. On the other hand, mileage charges for a home collection can cost more than the cremation of a cat. Bringing your cat in yourself is the easiest saving anywhere.
Where can I scatter my cat's ashes in Aichi?
Your own garden is the simplest place, and private land with the owner's permission is fine too. Parks, beaches and public land usually have their own rules. Because a cat's ashes are only a cup or so, many families scatter a little and keep the rest in a small urn or keepsake at home.
Can I bury my cat in the garden in Aichi?
Often yes, with conditions such as burial depth, distance from wells and waterways and whether you own the land. Cities, councils and landlords can be stricter than the wider rules. Dig deep enough to keep foxes and dogs away. If you rent or might move, cremation lets you keep your cat with you and bury the ashes later.
